Q: How often do breastfed babies need to eat?
A: Breastfed babies typically eat every 2-3 hours. This rate of feeding maintains a strong milk supply, as milk producing hormones begin to decrease 2 1/2 hours after a feeding. Some days, Baby will need to nurse often, especially during a growth spurt or if she is not feeling well. Sometimes babies may go for a longer stretch between feedings, for example if they are napping. Breast milk is easier to digest than formula, therefore breastfed babies need to eat more often.
