Expert Q&A

By Ann Calandro

Are there any laws in effect that hinder women from breastfeeding in public?

No, there are no laws anywhere that hinder women from breastfeeding in public. Actually, women have the constitutional right to breastfeed! If you would like to read more about this, please see La Leche League's Breastfeeding and the Law. I think this will give you a very thorough look at the law as it has to do with breastfeeding.

There is much legislation being done state by state, and some states have actually addressed breastfeeding specifically. However, if your state has not addressed it specifically yet, you are still protected.
