First of all, thank you to everyone who posted in response to my last entry. I appreciate all of the stories about binks from mamas who are both dealing with them and done with them.
I just wanted to write a fairly quick entry about our weekend. Can I write a "quick" entry? We'll see. (laugh) My husband looked at the last entry I wrote and said, "Geez honey, a little wordy, don't you think?"
We had our picture taken on Saturday at the Picture People. We got a really good family picture to send out in our holiday cards, and also a pretty good solo shot of Aden. Getting any good pictures of Aden is a challenge right now because he just won't stay in one place! He thought the most fun part of the whole experience was running behind the backdrop and bursting out on the other side, cackling with glee. Yes, I said cackling...he has this new laugh that he does whenever he is *super* amused with something, and I can only describe it as cackling. I think it's cute and funny because I'm his mom, but I also have to say that I hope it's short-lived.
I can't decide what I think of the Picture People. We've been there twice now, and before that we always went to Sears. Sears was a lot cheaper, but at our Sears, they were also always running about 30 minutes late and were chronically understaffed. We don't have to wait very long at the Picture People, and it's nice to get the photos back in one hour. But are they all they're cracked up to be? I just can't say.
Derek and I spent a lot of time tonight looking on the internet for dog breeders and rescue operations. This is a subject we keep going back and forth on. We spent about 3 weeks this summer as emergency dog sitters for our friends' beagle. Sydney was a great little dog (except for her nervous bladder) and Aden had a blast playing with her. It's such a cliche, but there really is something sweet about a boy and his dog. We've always wanted Aden to have a dog to grow up with. The question is, do we wait or get one now? Do I really need one more thing to take care of and clean up after right now? Can we afford one? Do I have the patience to wait a few more years? Is Aden missing out already?
Our ongoing joke now is that I'm getting a dog for Christmas. In reality it will at least be spring because we need to fence our yard first. And oh yeah, it would also be good if we decided what kind of dog we want to get! I've read and reread books about choosing the right breed of dog. (As a side note, I think we will get a purebred dog because as a dog novice I feel we have a better shot at getting a predictable temperament that way. However, to assuage my guilt about all the unwanted animals out there, we will probably get a dog from a rescue operation.) Our current list is narrowed down to these five: Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Golden Retriever, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. So really we don't know what the heck we want! Any thoughts or advice from the peanut gallery?
I'm looking forward to this week. I won't be watching Katie at all. I like having her around, but it will be so much easier going places with just one child. We're spending Thanksgiving at my grandparents' house, which is just an hour away. Then, after Thanksgiving, Aden and I are going to my mom's for a few days. This week is going to be like a vacation for me!
Hope the same is true for all of you. Have a fun Turkey Day and stay safe while travelling!
