Baby news! (From my TTM board) 5-8-04

I posted this on Tuesday, May 4 at 4:10 a.m.:

I woke up at 3:11 with a very real contraction. My first thoughts were, "Oh yeah, *that* was a real one" and "oh crap, I remember now, that is what this feels like!" LOL. A wave of intense menstrual cramp, with some cervical tinglies thrown in. After it passed, I got up to go to the bathroom to see if that would change anything and then I laid in bed with small waves of cramps coming and going, waiting to see if another good one would hit. It took until 3:28 but they have been frequent ever since, maybe every 4 minutes? But not too bad to breathe through, with the occasional moan thrown in. :)

I woke Derek after the third one and got up to go to the bathroom again after one or two more, and had some bloody show. Fran and Sarieah are on their way and Derek is making up the bed.

Hopefully I'll have good news later today!

Howdy everyone,

This is Derek,

Tara would like everyone to know that we had our baby! Lily Kathryn was born at 7:03AM. She weighs a surprising 9lbs 1oz!

I'll give you a brief overview. After Sarieah (the doula) arrived we went for a "many contraction" walk around the block. After we were home for about 15 minutes she really started progressing. So we moved to the bathtub. That's when Fran (the midwife) arrived. Tara was in the tub for about an hour.

Tara soon said that she felt more "pushing" type contractions and so we moved to the bedroom. About a half hour of transition and Tara started pushing. After about 4 or 5 contractions (about 10 minutes) we were holding our little girl!

We had a little scare after about two hours because Tara didn't stop bleeding, so, Fran suggested we call EMS. About two minutes after we called she started feeling better. EMS arrived and did a brief look over and we declined to transport her to the hospital.

Everything went wonderful. Tara IS amazing!!!!

I'm sure Tara will give the rest of the story with all the details later. She has been instructed to stay in bed all today and tomorrow. So, if she's posts something you let her have it!

I would like to thank everyone for their warm wishes. I feel like I know you all very well. Tara speaks highly of you ladies very often.

It's really me this time, not Derek... Isn't he the sweetest husband, though? :) He was amazing through the labor and has been doing such a great job taking care of me.

I was a good girl and stayed in bed (except for bathroom trips) for the last two days but I decided it was safe to sit in the office for a while today! :) I haven't been downstairs yet though, and don't think I will for another day or two. Resting in the bedroom is much nicer than I thought it would be!

Lily and I are doing great. She is a very sweet and mellow baby so far and a wonderful nurser. My milk came in last night and she is even more peaceful now that she can fill that belly! She's been sleeping great--5 hour stretches both nights, followed by another 2-3 hours--knock on wood! LOL. We've been taking lots of pictures and I hope we can get a better one up on the website soon, because she is really much more gorgeous than the picture shows.

Aden is a very affectionate big brother--he loves giving her hugs and kisses, reading her books, bringing her toys--he has even shared his favorite blanket with her! He does not seem upset or disturbed by her arrival at all and has taken it all in stride. You'd think a baby was born at our house every day! :)

I cannot believe how smooth the labor went and what an easy and natural transition this has been in our lives. The birth was wonderful and I will start working on the birth story soon, I promise. :) As Derek posted, I did bleed quite a bit after the birth and I gave everyone a bit of a scare, but luckily it just took a lot of tinctures, uterine massage, and a nursing baby to stop it. I feel so much better than I did after I had Aden--I am so dang impressed that I had a baby who was 1.5 pounds bigger, and I pushed for less than half the time, and yet I barely tore at all and didn't need any stitches!

Thank you to everyone who has posted. Derek has been updating me about the state of my board and I feel so loved. :) We have such a wonderful community here!

So, that is the big news here, in case anyone did not see it on my TTM board. I am working on Lily’s birth story, but until then I thought I would turn the TTM posts into an entry so I can keep them for posterity. :) There is also a link to pictures on my board.

We are still hanging out in bed and doing great. Thank you for all of the congratulations and compliments. I promise there will be more to read soon!

Tara
