March 21, 2000
Hi, everybody. What a day to start my diary, I became an aunt once again today! My sister, Kathi, had her first child at 2:03 this morning. The big guy (9 pounds, 13 ounces) is Brian Reardon Flanagan and I can't wait to go up to NY to visit! He's another breastfed child, yippee. I even bought my sister the Avent Isis pump as a baby shower gift. Welcome, Brian!
Also, welcome to Gianni William Andriano, my stepsister Linda's son, who was born on March 9th! We've just been having a whole load of boys in this family. We can start Grandma and Grandpa's baseball team soon at the rate we're going!
My little guy, Kevin, has been quite the biter this week. I'm pretty sure that tooth number four is about to break the surface. He only seems to bite like this for a week before the new tooth arrives. The last tooth just came about two weeks ago and he was nursing non stop. I hadn't had blistered nipples since he was born and they were a little tender for a few days before the tooth came through. Then the tooth came in and it all made sense!
Neil is amusing. We have been calling the expressed milk in the fridge "Kevin's milk" and sometimes he'll take the breast horn and try to get "Kevin's milk" out of his chest. We recently discovered that Neil has a dairy allergy and have switched him to rice and soy milk. He's excited, because now he has "Neil's milk" and it's all his, just like Kevin. He just wanted something that was all his own.
In other news, Kevin is now starting to crawl forward. He pushes himself backwards on his tummy to get where he wants to go, and he was up on his hands and knees going forward this morning. I was getting a little concerned that Kevin was taking too long. I will probably wish he wasn't mobile a month from now when I wonder where he got to in the 30 seconds since I put him on the floor! He'll probably rebel against his beloved Exersaucer, too.
As I was writing this, Neil came in with his favorite food, Ritz crackers, and informed me that he gave Kevin one. We've been working on the concept of sharing with Neil, as in we share the computer, we share the TV and we take turns. It's starting to pay off, as he loves the praise he gets when he shares with Kevin. He's really getting into it now that Kevin reacts to what he does. I don't think he realizes that Kevin was watching for months!
I now have a more family-friendly car. Ed bought a Saturn SC2 back in his single days, when being married and having two kids didn't seem like it would happen. My VW is great, but it's 12 years old and isn't up to long road trips. We just got a '93 Chrysler Concorde, and finally there's room for all of us in the car with room to spare. I even was in the back seat with the boys the other night and I had plenty of room with the two car seats! After contorting like a pretzel to get Kevin into his car seat in the Saturn (by sitting on Neil's booster), it is so nice to be able to just slide him into his seat.
Until next week, call me 'tickled blue'!
Suzanne
