Suton's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 30, 2001

We went to the beach yesterday! Last week of summer and we FINALLY made it! Hazel and Harry had an absolute BALL and I feel rather regretful that we didn't get there earlier & more often this year...Oh well...I am hoping the weather will hold out for a while & we can get back at least one more time. Hazel has asked six or seven times today "can we go to the beach again, Mom?"
Harry's teeth are still doing the no-show...Ugh. I am beginning to think he is only going to have these 4 teeth for the rest of his childhood...He continues to be borderline miserable and has started biting and gnawing on my fingers, shoulders, legs (thankfully NOT on my nipples!)...I feel so bad for the poor guy, but aside from all the usual remedies, I don't really know what else to do. He seems to do best when preoccupied, but it's hard to keep him stimulated 24-7. He's having a hard time with his naps again, which I am assuming is due to the dreaded teething. He'll sleep for about 1/2 hour and then wake. I can generally get him to fall back to sleep for another whopping 1/2 hour or so before he arises wailing again...
I am happy to report some good news, though. The monster that had been visiting our Miss Hazel appears to have gone on its merry way! She's been staying in bed & going down relatively easily. WHEW! Hopefully I'm not saying that too soon & jinxing it all.
And MORE good news...Harry is a full-on walker now! He's just toddling all over the place and thinks he's the cat's meow! I forgot how completely adorable it is these first few weeks of walking. He just looks so darling and delighted with his new skill! He's also quite a climber, and that makes me just a bit nervous...Hazel was never much of a climber (at least not until she was relatively skilled at the balance thing) so this will be a new one for us!
Harry is again VERY interested in nursing, so his few days of dwindled interest were either the teeth hurting or just a fluke of some sort.
Wishing you all a great "last weekend of summer" Labor day!
