I really think Lily is weaning. I thought I was going to get a little more say in when we stopped breastfeeding. I know it is really up to her, but I feel like I am being kept out of the loop.

For the past two days she has not wanted to nurse before bed. She really didn’t even nurse too much when I picked her up at daycare. This means the only time she is spending any length of time nursing is when she wakes up.

I am feeling the impending loss more than I expected to. If you had asked me months ago, I would have thought I would be celebrating my freedom from being the food source.

Since she takes the cup so well I have decided to see if she will give up the bottle. Today was the first day we gave her a couple of cups of formula for daycare. We also packed bottles as backup.

Lily’s doctor says we can start her on a little (2 oz a day) cow’s milk. I think we may start in a few days. I just can’t believe she is growing up so quickly.

The past couple of days she has really seemed to enjoy daycare. We went on a family vacation from Aug 25-Sept 1. We flew from Arizona to Tennessee and then made two road trips while in Tennessee. By the end of the trip Lily was really missing her routine.

A couple of weeks before the trip Lily had begun to cry when we left her at daycare. She would also cry when I got there to pick her up (Mommy get me off the floor kind of cry). Now she seems very content at daycare. When I got there yesterday she said “Hi” and crawled over to me. Then she crawled away and kept playing. She wasn’t upset when I made her leave, but I think she would have continued to play there if I had not taken her away. She is happy to be back with her little friends.

I know all parents think their kids are just the best, but I am so proud of how Lily is learning. One of her daycare workers made a point to tell me how all the parents are impressed with Lily when they come to pick up their kids.

Understand that Lily is one of the smallest kids (18 pounds at 11-months) in the 8 to 12 month pod. There are babies that are a month younger that weigh 3 pounds more. So Lily saying words clearly looks out of place. She will say “hi” and blow kisses at other parents (yes she is a ham). I had not realized that Lily was the only one saying several words.

I am glad that Lily is thriving. I just hope I can adjust to her decision to stop nursing.
