Adventures in Extended Nursing
November 30, 1999
Mother's Day is an appropriate time to write this introduction, since few things define me as a mother more than breastfeeding does. This is my third time as a breastfeeding mom. I nursed DS1 until he was 2 1/2 years old. He weaned during my second pregnancy. I nursed DS2 until he was 22 months old. (I initiated weaning while pregnant with my third child.)
My current nursing relationship is with my daughter. At this writing, she is almost 2 1/2 years old. Nursing is solely a night time ritual now. Even so, I can't say that I think she will give it up anytime soon, and I will not make her -- not yet. I am entertaining the idea of child-led weaning.
I want to write this diary as a way to share the normalcy of an extended breastfeeding relationship with mothers who might be curious and those who are also in similar relationships. I hope you'll stick around.
