December 26, 2000

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope y'all had a great time. Well, I went for my level II ultrasound and my 20 week checkup on the 22nd. We waited for a very long time at the perinatologists' office, and finally went in and had this super cool tech do the ultrasound. She said the baby was very easy to scan, and that the baby looked about 8 days bigger than we thought, but she wasn't going to change the due date (May 9) because 10 days either way is considered normal. I'm having a .......... <drumroll> BOY! Yup, another son! His name is going to be Logan Wolf Gaunt (unless I change my mind). We got the sonogram on video, so anyone coming over to my house will be able to see it. I've gained *11* pounds since Nov. 22, so I now weigh 134. My blood pressure is good/low (112/70), but because I've been very tired the midwife wrote me a prescription for some iron supplements, to be taken in addition to my prenatal vitamins. And the midwife was impressed enough to make my next appointment six weeks away instead of four. So I won't go in again until February 6.

My mother, aunt and I celebrated Yule on the 21st, and then the next day we did the ultrasound thing, dropped my mom and son off at home, and my aunt and I went to the mall. We had both done no shopping whatsoever. We had little money between us and a large list of people to buy for. So we pooled our resources and started shopping. And shopping. And shopping. We got home at midnight, exhausted to the core. I was worried that Jake would still be awake, as I usually help him to sleep. But as it turns out, he and my mom had both gone to sleep around 9, and slept just fine until we came home and woke them up. I was so impressed!

The next day, however, it was apparent that Jake was sick. :( He was very hot and lethargic. He seemed to have no other symptoms. For the next two days he slept a great deal, and ate very little. I was upset because he was sick, for the first time, but not overly concerned. He nursed often, and his fever didn't seem to be bothering him very much. I just let his body fight off the infection with the fever, and only gave him Motrin when he seemed uncomfortable, which was twice. By Christmas, he was as warm as he usually is, although slightly more cranky than normal. And today he seems perfectly fine. If he did still have the fever today, I was going to call the pediatrician, but he seems dandy. I don't know what he had, but I seemed to have caught it over the weekend too. I was feverish and tired and just feeling icky, but with no other symptoms. I didn't get hot enough to frighten me, and I seem over it now. Go figure. All in all, I think this holiday was a success, aside from being sick. :)
