Sarah G's Diary Entries

July 31, 2001

This morning was one of those mornings where you just couldn't beat yourself awake with a stick. (laugh) I was just soo comfy and sleepy. But Jake, on the other hand, was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at his regular time. And instead of waking me up by force, he whispered 'Wate Tup!' in my ear over and over. (grin) Had I been really asleep, I would never have heard him. Can you say Awwwwww... :) And as I didn't get up, he carefully and quietly crawled out of bed, put a tape in the vcr and sat in the chair to watch it. When the movie started, that volume was a bit too loud, and I was on the edge of getting mucho annoyed. But before I could rouse myself enough to reach for the remote to turn it down, Jake had popped up out of his chair and turned the volume down by himself! Yay Jake! After a while, he came back to me, and urged me to roll over so he could nurse. I did it like I do in the middle of the night, without really waking up, and when he was done he went back to his chair to watch the movie some more. All in all, it was a very stress-free to wake up in the morning.

Now Jake is sitting on the floor taking my breast pump apart and putting it back together again. Smart boy!

Logan rolled over for the first time yesterday. Yay Logan! It made him mad. (laugh) His tooth seems to not bother him at all, and on the whole, he’s a very happy baby. He loves to laugh. All you gotta do is catch his attention and grin your biggest goofiest grin and he’ll laugh at you. And if you want to hear it for yourself, (grin) go to http://www.geocities.com/roguegrace/babyvoice.html. Jake’s talking is there too, and I’ll be adding more as I get them.

Logan is ticklish. All over. Especially his collarbones and around his knees. He also loves it when you play patty-cake with his feet instead of his hands. He’ll just laugh and laugh.

Jake’s new favorite lunch is noodles. And I know you are thinking, “So what? All kids like noodles.” Ah, but these are the plainest noodles possible: simple egg noodles with a dollop of butter. No other food seems to please him as much.

Logan’s hair is still dark and long. At this age, Jake’s hair had rubbed off like old velvet, leaving him bald in patches. I had assumed it would happen the same way with Logan, but I’m glad I was wrong. Jake’s dark hair rubbed off, and when it grew in again, it was blond. Go figure. Logan’s hair is growing in through the hair he was born with, and it appears to be staying dark, but it’s rather too short to really tell.

I expect we’ll have to buy a new carseat long before Logan reaches a year old. The boy is already two feet tall and 16 pounds, at three months old. By the time he’s old enough to be turned forward facing, the carseat’s going to be too small! I’ll buy a convertible carseat, just like the one I have for Jake, that can be rear facing up to 30 pounds, and still have room for longer legs and a taller back. But that’s a big chunk of change, and I hope we can continue to use this infant seat as long as possible.

Jake has stopped saying ‘sune’ when he wants to nurse. Instead, he says, “I wanna nurse,” as clear as day. And sometimes he’ll tell me how ‘nurse’ goes in his mouth. (laugh) Which reminds me of yesterday. I had laid Logan on the bed, and Jake accidentally bonked him in the head. Logan squawked, and Jake looked as if I was going to yell at him. I told him he ought to kiss Logan’s owie, and he did, which started a kiss fest. (grin) Logan was eventually excluded, as he wasn’t all that excited about toddler kisses. I would tap my cheek with a finger and say, “Can I have a kiss right here?’ And Jake would laugh and give me a kiss. Then I would squeal and throw open my arms and hug him, like you do for long-lost relatives at the airport, and proclaim him such a sweet boy. He thought this was grandly funny, and would kiss me on alternating cheeks to get me to squeal and hug him. (grin) Soon, he was saying, “I’m such a sweet boy!” every time I said ‘sweet boy’. And every once in a while, he’d pause just millimeters from kissing me and say, “I’m gonna kiss you wif my mouth.” And then he’ll kiss me. (laugh) Silly boy!
