Sarah G's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 28, 2001

On Wednesday, I weighed 168, a gain of 3 pounds from last week, and a total gain of
51 pounds. My blood pressure was 92/68, very low. I think it was so low because I was having an atypical migraine. (It actually started soon after I left the house this morning, and I thought I was going to have to pull over on the highway until it passed, but I managed to get to the midwives' office safely.) There's no protein or sugar in my urine.

Logan's head-down, and his heart rate was 150. :) Jake helped measure me (35 cm) and held the Doppler thingy. He was delighted.

I allowed a cervical check, even though Mary (the midwife) gave me an option. (I know the choice was always mine, but it was nice to hear it from her.) Before she did it, she asked me to guess my dilation. I laughed and told her I wasn't at all dilated, and I was right. Mary was rather surprised, expecting me to be at least soft. We discussed the length of my last labor (36 hours) and figured I didn't dilate then until I was in active labor, which makes labor longer, something we really want to avoid this time. She suggested sex to ripen my cervix, and we both laughed about that, seeing as how I'm single. She then suggested Red Raspberry Leaf tea, and an herbal supplement called 5W to take three times a day.

Mary and I agreed it doesn't look like I'm going to give birth any time soon. She seemed more disappointed that I am. :) I don't mind. I want a May baby, and am not so uncomfortable that I want the baby out now. I will try the herbal stuff to ripen my cervix though, because I'd like to shorten my labor by dilating at least a bit beforehand. :)

All the rest of Wednesday, then Thursday and Friday, I had a migraine. I was up all that first night in pain, and it was awful. Jake’s been a dear for the most part, quietly playing. I feel much better today, but had some aura and numbness in the grocery store. Hopefully these migraines will vanish after Logan is born.
