Happy Earth Day! I am four days away from being full term, and I really feel it. My back hurts, my hips hurt, my pelvic bones are separating. My feet are swollen, and I’m constantly tired. (laugh) Sounds awful, right? It’s not so bad, actually. I sleep well, except for the four or five times I get up to pee every night. But I have no problem going back to sleep, thankfully.
Jake is nursing much less. I’m not too worried that he will wean, though. He nurses before naps, and before bed at night. He also nurses in the morning, before really waking up. I expect he will increase his nursing sessions after Logan is born and my milk supply is established once again.
The WIC appointment on Friday went much better than I expected. I didn’t get at all lost getting there, and arrived half an hour early. Jake behaved himself quite well. I was seen quickly; apparently someone didn’t show for his or her appointment or something. The lady I spoke to was very nice, and quick. She was pleased that I was still nursing my toddler. I expected to get some flack for that. She checked me for anemia, then did Jake, who didn’t even wince when he was pricked. He was quite charmed, though, with our matching band-aids. Both of us have great iron levels.
I got my coupons, and instructions to call for my next appointment after Logan is born. And on Saturday, I went grocery shopping. I got two pounds of cheese, a jar of peanut butter, a gallon and a half of milk, two boxes of cereal, 3 cans of juice, 3 cans of frozen juice, and skipped the two dozen eggs. It was nice.
My 38 week appointment is Wednesday, and will include a pelvic exam. Yuck. If I’m not showing any signs of impending labor, we’ll discuss herbal methods to get the ball rolling. I don’t know how keen I am on this, but will keep an open mind. I know we will talk about Red Raspberry tea, evening primrose oil, and such things, just herbs to ripen the cervix, but I really like the idea of allowing Logan to come when he wants to, on his on time table. I suspect that if I do decide to use an herbal method or two that I won’t be very dedicated. (laugh) I don’t really mind going past my due date at all, although I am getting more and more uncomfortable, and more and more ready to have this baby already. But my priority is not my comfort, rather my son’s readiness for the outside world. It won’t be long now. I guess I should pack my hospital bag! (grin)
