Sarah G's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 28, 2001

I had an appointment with my midwife yesterday morning, and:

I weigh 150.5, for a total gain of 33.5 pounds. (I don't mind the weight gain as I think I look fabulous, and I'm right on track to where I was in my last pregnancy, where I delivered weighing 165 pounds.) My blood pressure is 112/70. The baby's heart rate is 144, and he's head down. I'm declared perfectly healthy, and don't have to come back until March 20th. :)

Jake behaved very well in the waiting room. He would run and sit in an empty chair nearby and grin and the lady sitting next to him, and when she smiled back (they all do) he would come streaking back across the room to me, laughing at the top of his lungs. Then he would go find a different empty chair to sit in and grin. So very cute. And he’s become quite the independent little person. He absolutely did not want to hold my hand when I was called back, but did stay right next to me instead of running off. I was really impressed with his confidence.

The nurse who took my blood pressure asked me how old he was, and when I said two, she was surprised. She thought he was closer to 18 months. I weighed Jake on the electronic scale they weighed me on, and he weighs 26 pounds! Two pounds more than he did on the 19th, but then again, I didn’t bother to take off his shoes or overalls.

The appointment was short and nice. My midwife commented on how healthy I looked. :) On the way home, I get a migraine. I’ve been getting them about every other day. And by keeping a migraine diary, I’m noticing they start around the same time of day. While driving on a rather crowded street, I lose a great deal of my vision into nothing-spots and bright sparkles and almost get into a wreck when I can't see that the car ahead of me has stopped. I manage to get to a Jack in the Box and Jake and I eat lunch until I can see again. Once I get home, the migraine moves to the next stage: wonky sensation and stuttering speech. I’m just grateful I was able to get home safely.
