Ketherine's Diary Entries

Wow! I'm finally in my third trimester! It seems as if this pregnancy has just flown by. We went on a tour of the hospital yesterday and it was really impressive. They have a "Family Birth Centre" approach which is what I wanted. With DS, I got to labour, deliver and then stay in the same room. All the rooms were private and he got to stay with me the entire time. This hospital is a bit different. You labour and deliver in a beautiful birthing suite and then stay in a different room. The rooms are not all private but my insurance covers private rooms so I am sure I will be alone.

The baby stays with me the entire time except for about an hour where they take him/her for assessment in the nursery. They require that the husband or significant other goes along with the baby which seems like a great idea to me. They also have two lactation consultants on staff whereas the other hospital only had one. The nurse that gave us the tour assured me that they require the mother's permission before any formula is given and if formula is needed, they will give it by cup. Overall I was very impressed considering it is a very small hospital.

I have been having very painful Braxton-Hicks contractions today. They feel like cramps and my back is really hurting too. I will have to go to the doctor if they continue just to make sure this is not pre-term labour! I have been feeling much better this week and DS is over his flu. We are both breathing much better which is a great relief to me!

I think that DS has decided to give up his nap and he seems to be doing okay. He has not napped for the past two days and went to bed at a decent hour. For the past month or so his bedtime was between 9-10 p.m. which was getting quite unreasonable. It was not that he was fussing about it, it was just that he was not tired at all. I'll have to see how this goes. His nap gives me some time to myself, but maybe I'll just have to have that time at night now. Maybe it is better that way, we'll see.

'till next week!
