Before I begin this week's entry, I would like to again mention the fact
that breastfeeding during pregnancy is completely safe unless a person has
had preterm labor (or some various other complications) in previous
pregnancies. Many doctors are misinformed as to this fact and advise their
patients to wean before they are ready. Remember ladies, they are your
breasts and YOU have the right to say whether you will breastfeed during
pregnancy or not, NOT your doctor. If your doctor gives you a hard time, I
suggest you either inform them of the correct information or switch
doctors. For support, you can contact La Leche League or speak to a
registered Lactation Consultant. Do not be discouraged and as one of my
"cyber-friends" has said, stick to your guns! It is your body and your
decision! The fact that so many doctors gove the wrong information about
this makes me soooooo mad (as I guess you can tell ... hee!).
I have had anther rough week this week. I am 22 weeks, and my doctor has
finally diagnosed my with Hyperemesis Gravidarum and wants me to take
short-term disability from work. For those of you who don't know what HG
is, it is basically severe morning sickness. I have gotten to the point
where I can't predict if I will be functional that day. I am nauseous most
of the time and vomit very frequently. I am also very weak and feel faint
most of the time. When I went to the doctor yesterday, I was shocked to see
that I had lost 5 pounds this month and therefore have only gained a total
of 2 lbs. altogether. The baby is doing fine -- it is just me who is very
sick. I am so glad that my company provides the STD benefit for employees.
I don't know what I would do otherwise!
So now that I am on STD I have become a SAHM (stay at home mom) much sooner
than I thought! I am really glad, though, because I get to spend some much
needed time with DS. But now my dilemma is that I need some SAHM support,
because I need to learn all the resources available to me in my community.
I have no idea what types of programs, drop-in centers, etc. are available
to me. As well, I have never been home with DS for more than two days
(except for vacations) and even then my husband is with me. It is not that
I am nervous about it, just that it is something that DS and I have to
adjust to.
I have been contemplating purchasing a double stroller for DS and the baby
and pretty much had my mind made up not to until I came across a REALLY
good deal yesterday that I could not pass up. There is a used baby supply
store near me that I shop at sometimes. I went there yesterday to browse
and low and behold there it was -- a BRAND NEW Fisher Price double stroller
for about $100 less than it would be anywhere else and about $50 less than
the cheapest new double stroller I have seen. Apparently a lady had brought
it in that day, new in the box, because she did not like it (I guess it was
a gift?) and I managed to snap it up right away. They told me that because
it was technically second hand (someone sold it to them) they had to sell
it at the "used" price (they sell some new strollers too). Anyway, that is
my baby shopping story for this week. I love to shop! :-).
Until the next entry, Ketherine
