March 1, 2000
I have had a really rough week. I was in and out of the hospital due to severe morning sickness. I could not keep anything down and became dehydrated. My doctor decided that I should have dextrose and potassium chloride IVs because of this. It was so awful! I felt so weak and disoriented that I could not function properly. I feel really badly for DS as he missed his "old" Mommy and could not understand why I had to lie down all the time. I am feeling much better now and am actually starting to eat again. My appetite is not like it was before but at least I am able to eat! I was so worried for the baby because I felt that my condition would definitely affect him/her. However, I had an ultrasound and everything was okay. I am so relieved!
I am 20 weeks right now and I can feel the baby moving around a lot. It is such a relief when you can start feeling regular movement because you know that the baby is doing fine. DS has become intrigued by the fact that there is a baby in my tummy. He constantly wanted to hug my tummy and sometimes he even tickles it and says "Baby happy!" I mentioned in previous entries that DS was less interested in nursing but over the past week he has been demanding it more! He wants to nurse when he comes home from daycare and in the evening before bedtime. I don't really mind because it gives me a chance to relax a bit.
<>P> I have started to buy a few things for the baby now and DS is getting a bit jealous of this. I bought a baby swing because I did not have one for DS and he wants to get into it and swing because he thinks it is for him. He also thinks that the baby clothes are for him and gets mad when I tell him that they won't fit. I guess this baby is going to be a big adjustment for all of us. I am just trying to comprehend what it is going to be like with a toddler and a baby especially with tandem nursing. That will really be a challenge! I suppose I will get used to it but imagine that it will be difficult at first. I am thinking of attending some La Leche League meetings to get some peer support for this. However, with my crazy schedule I really don't know if I will have time.Lots of love and positive breastfeeding vibes!
