Poor DS has a really bad ear infection and was extremely sick all weekend. When I took him to the doctor on Monday she could not even see the back of his ear canals because of all the goo that was inside of them. She had to use a little metal instrument to clean out his ears and he cried the whole time. I felt so badly for him. I had to take two days off work because he was in so much pain that he wanted me to hold him all of the time. I wish that I could have stayed home with him for a few more days, but I have used up all of my sick days for this year already! Oh well, I am going on maternity leave in June anyway.
My day care provider is going on maternity leave in March, so I had to interview a temporary provider today. The agency that I deal with selected a really nice woman and we went to interview her tonight. DS just loved her and did not want to leave. We were at her house for almost an hour! I was only planning on staying for about 20 minutes. I can't believe how well he takes to strange situations. He seems to warm up to people so quickly. He just made himself at home there. He took out all of the toys, helped himself to some cookies and asked the woman's daughter to read him a story. I am really relieved that he won't (or at least I hope he won't) have a hard time adjusting there. One thing I can say about DS is that he is the most independent toddler I have ever known! I believe that I can attribute this to attachment parenting. The security that DS derives from the relationship with DH and myself allows him to assert his own independence. At least that is what I understand from all I have read about AP.
I think that I may have discovered what could be causing my sore nipple problem. I noticed recently that my nipples were more sore after I had be exposed to the cold or had gotten a chill. Actually, when I really thought about it, the sensation was more of a burning than of soreness. I know that mastitis or a yeast infection, both of which I do not have, can cause burning. So I did some research on the Internet and found information about something called Raynaud's Phenomenon. It is a condition that is typically characterized by sensitivity to cold in the hands and feet caused by vasospasms. That definitely describes me (DH calls me "coldy"). Raynaud's can also cause vasospasms in the systems of the breast and nipple. It can cause intense pain that is often characterized by stinging and burning. I think that this describes what I am experiencing and I am going to speak to my doctor about it at my next prenatal visit. Until then, I will try to keep my breasts toasty and warm.
Until next week,
Ketherine
