Happy New Millennium Everyone!

I hope that everyone's holidays were as festive as mine were. I had an entire week off work so I got to spend some much needed time with DH and DS. However, we decided to take a 2-day trip to Syracuse, NY to visit my grandparents. Big mistake! DS cried the whole time and was too scared to sleep (poor thing). We felt really badly and ended up buying him a stuffed Elmo doll. He is definitely not a stuffed animal kind of kid, but his eyes lit up so much when I handed him the Elmo that I would have to say it was the highlight of the trip.

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and have just gotten over my morning sickness (Hooray!). My only problem now is that my nipples are so sore and sensitive that I am having trouble nursing DS. However, if I don’t nurse him, then my breasts become engorged! I was so surprised the first time that happed since I am only nursing him at night right now. Before I became pregnant, the last time my breasts became engorged was probably when DS was about 4 or 5 months old!

I have gotten so many mixed messages about breastfeeding and pregnancy. When one of my co-workers found out that I was pregnant, she told me that I was robbing my baby of nutrients by breastfeeding and that I should stop immediately! Well, I had never heard of such a thing before so I did some research on my own. According to all the information I found from respectable resources (i.e. La Leche League), in most circumstances breastfeeding during pregnancy is perfectly OK. So now I just politely tell people (in a very tactful manner) to mind their own business.

I am really not looking forward to starting work today. But I guess I'd better get everything prepared. DS has to go to daycare and he always has trouble adjusting after vacations. I'm planning to start toilet training him this week so I'll keep everyone posted!
