August 12, 2002
Today I returned to work part time after being home for a wonderful 9 weeks with Adrianna. I am only work 11a-4p Monday-Thursday. I was very fortunate to find such great hours which include no weekends or holidays. I am working in a Municipal Court as a deputy clerk.
I am very overwhelmed with all the information I "sucked" in today. I am being trained by a friend who is moving to another department within the city government. Her last day is this Friday, so I only have 5 days of training. Yikes, huh?! Now that explains why I am in overload tonight! The amazing thing is when I picked Adrianna up in my arms I totally forgot everything regarding work.
In that instance I knew I would survive going back to work.
Adrianna's Adjustment
She did absolutely great! My SIL (babysitter) said she never fussed once.
She loves being around other kids.
She is so happy to just watch everything going on, listen to the noises and of course play with her toes. When I walked in to pick her up I called her name and she smiled. Then I began talking to her and she let out the cutest scream.
Nursing Adjustment & Changes
I nursed Adrianna at 9:45a so she would not be hungry right away upon arrival at my SIL's. I packed a 5 oz. bm (breastmilk) bottle along with a bowl of oatmeal. My SIL has an ample stock of frozen bm so I was not worried about a second bottle.
I was so busy at work I did not get a chance to pump. I can't believe I lasted 5 hours without leaking. I am going to have to pump to keep my milk supply up. I brought my Medela electric pump with me but left it in the car. I had to enter the building through the public entrance today because I did not have a pass card or keys (security for public government.) Anyway to get to the point, I was not sure if I knew the Deputy at the security checkpoint and I didn't want to start my day with a search of my breast pump. I know that sounds childish and stupid but I did not want to add to my nervousness. I now have a pass card with keys so I can tote it in the employee entrance tomorrow.
Onto how we nursed....We arrived home and she immediately nursed with a vengance.
We played while I showered her with kisses and hugs. About 2 hours after we got home she wanted to nurse again. No complaints here because I was just about to pump to help increase my supply. She fell asleep during this nursing and enjoyed to moment of holding my precious daughter. She enjoyed her catnap of 1 hour and returned to playing in her Exersaucer. With her second nursing session I fed her a couple tablespoons of oatmeal with bm to help combat her gassy constipation. She absolutely loves eating from a spoon.
We began our nightly ritual of bathtime at 8p followed by a bottle with cereal (oatmeal). Daddy usually does this feeding, hence the bottle, but he is deep up to his neck in school work, so Mommy took over. I could not pump enough bm so I had to supplement with formula (not happy) but it will take my body a few days to adjust to this new schedule. She only at 2-3 ounces of the bottle before begging for my breast. I myself never force the bottle on her so down went the bottle and I nursed her to sleep. That brings me to where I am now typing this diary entry!
I have sipped on water all night long and started taking brewers' yeast tablets again to help increase my milk supply during this adjustment. I knew it would be hard and I should have made the change before I started back but I loathe pumping. My body adjusted pretty quickly when I quit my 8 hour a day job and I was pumping 2x at work so I hope I am that lucky again.
Baby Question
Adrianna is having trouble burping after taking a bottle. She will fall asleep during her bottle feeding (afternoon at sitter's and evening feeding with cereal) and will not burp. I try to do it without waking her but I have not had any luck. She will go to sleep and wake a short time later screaming. I know it is discomfort from not burping because as soon as I pick her up she burps, lays her head on my shoulder and goes back to sleep. Any ideas or suggestions??!!!
Well I better get myself to bed and get some sleep while Adrianna is snoozing. I cannot nap during to day with her anymore.
