February 20, 2001
13 day until my sweet lil' daughter Adrianna will turn the big 1! I can't believe how fast she has grown up. It seems like I blinked and bam she was a big girl.
**A diagnosis (finally)**
Adrianna has had diarrhea for 2 weeks now. I did not fuss too much over it because I thought it was from her teething. After all she is cutting 8 teeth all at one time. Anyway she also had an ear infection she we start an antibiotic. Combine the antibiotic with the diarrhea she was already having = one bad looking yeast infection + a staph infection. I felt so bad at the pediatrician! When she was first born I did not hesitate to take her to the doctor for anything but now I am trying to figure the minor things out for myself so they don't think I am a hypochondriac (spelling?) I failed this time. We got what he called a "glorified butt creme" and some antibiotic for her rash. He also gave her some drops to take orally to help with the bowel spasms.
Before I ramble on and forget...her final diagnosis is rotovirus. He said it is highly contagious so we will be confined to the house another weekend. She has already been sick for 2 weeks so I hope it will be passing soon.
**The spoken language of Adrianna**
My SIL babysits Adrianna along with her daughter Isabella. Adrianna has been trying to repeat words that my SIL speaks frequently. When I arrived to pick her up yesterday she said clearly while looking at Isabella..."BELLA!" She sounded like such a big girl. Then when we got home I turned a toy on and it says "Hello Baby" and sure enough Adrianna attempted to repeat "Hello Baby" She loves to say "bye-bye", Maw, love you, of course Daddy and a few other. Granted only a mother can understand exactly what she is saying and it sounds like lovely music to my ears.
**Weaning (not)**
After battling this nasty rotovirus we are back about 25 steps on weaning. We were SO close! I should be thankful because my breastmilk kept her nourished and hydrated for 5 days when she would not eat nor drink anything else. Breastfeeding is truly a MIRACLE! It is amazing that nursing, as easy as it is, gives so much nourishment to sustain a 11 3/4 month old child for 5 days.
Breastmilk it does my baby girl GOOD!
***CONGRATULATIONS***
Congratulations to Laura K. & her DH from pregnancy diaries on the arrival of her daughter Katie this past week! She is a beautiful baby girl! Enjoy this marvelous time with your daughter, it goes so fast!
Have a great weekend! I am going to cut this entry short to get some much need rest before Adrianna wakes up!
