Carmajo's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 2, 2003

Well I hope I am not the only neurotic mother who started planning Adrianna's 1st birthday party a couple months ago.
I went shopping 3 weeks ago for the decorations, party favors and invitations.
We (Adrianna and I) picked out a lovely pink them with flowers and butterflys.
To be honest it was the only "girly" theme I could find. I really like it though.
I have already filled out the invitations, addressed them and stamped them all. They are all ready to go and have been for over 2 weeks. Neurotic? maybe but I have thought of this over and over for so long.
My baby girl is turning 1! Now all we (Daddy & I) have to do is pick out food to serve and choose a cake. I am going to make Adrianna's personal cake. I chose carrot because she seem to like the few peices I gave her last week at Mamaw's birthday. Now presents....we still have not figured out what we are going to buy her. I have picked up books and a few Baby Einstein DVD's but we still would like to buy her a big toy. Hmmm...choices, choices!

---First birthday time capsule---
Her is an idea I got from the party supply store. I am buying a very basic scrapbooking kit (never done it before) to assemble a 1st birthday scrapbook to give Adrianna on her 16th or 18th birthday.
I am going to take a picture of Adrianna with everyone at her party. I am also having each child draw Adrianna a picture to be placed in the time capsule. I am also asking each adult family member to write Adrianna a short note or letter to be placed in the capsule. Of course Mommy's letter will probably be a good 10 pages.
All of the items will be placed in a sealed capsule for Adrianna to open at a later date.

---Weaning---
We are still nursing around 3 times a day.
First thing in the morning, right after I get home from work and during her nightime waking. She really likes giving herself a bottle. She gets so excited that I literally have to hide her empty bottles because if she should spot one then she throws a fit until I fill it with formula.
She loves to carry it around with her. She likes the independence! Ah, she is growing up.

---Teething---
Nothing new, yet! At 9 months the pediatrician could see 8 new teeth swollen and in his exact words "ready to break through" but none have shown up.

---Walking---
Adrianna is getting so brave. She has gone from letting go of the couch and diving for something else to hold on to, to easily walking from furniture to table to grabbing on to our legs. She likes to get behind me while I am doing dishes and hold on to my pants and walk around the kitchen. It is so cute! Rob is out of town until Wednesday so we are hoping walking unassisted can wait till Daddy is back home.
I almost forgot! She is standing unassisted! It is funny because she holds her arms out straight to balance herself the first few seconds. She looks like a terrified tight rope walker in the circus.

---Temper---
Mommy is getting used to the temper tantrums. Adrianna can see a kleenex across the room and if I pick it up to throw it away she has a "cow!" It is amazing how she puts everything together so quickly! She realizes that if Mommy picks it up then it will yes go in the trash and so she cannot tear it up and eat it. Once that thought is processed (in seconds) she will either throw herself on the ground or clinch her fists and cry. I just hope this stage is a phase, yah right!

---Sleeping---
Adrianna is still not sleeping well at all.
Right now she is taking her first nap since in 3 days. She is still waking on an average 2-3 times per night. I have tried letting her cry but that only works if she is whining. If it is a true cry it works better if I take her binky in, rub her back and occassionaly rock her back to sleep with a short nursing session. I have come to a conclusion that my daughter is just not a good sleeper. There are some many contributing factors. Adrianna has had either a cold, ear infection or allergy symptoms constant since about 8 weeks old.
I am looking forward to her 12 month well check so I can discuss this in detail with her pediatrician. We have take the first step with the allergies and found our beloved Boxers a new loving home. It has been a month and she still cannot shake the constant runny nose, sneezing and so on.

Congratulations to Alisa on preconception.com diary! I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months!
