Kenny's dad Al (Sammy's "Pop") is in intensive care at the hospital. He had a terrible heart attack, and we're still not sure what
to expect. He seems to be improving, but there has been considerable damage to his heart, and that is their main concern.
He did communicate very clearly to the family that he didn't want to be placed on a respirator. Kenny and his brother and
sisters were really struggling trying to make the decision for him, and then he improved enough to be able to make the decision
for himself. I'm so relieved that it worked out that way. He is comfortable in his relationship with God, and he isn't afraid.
Let me tell you, if you've been around many people when they are preparing to die, you know that there are only two kinds of
people in the world -- those who are ready, and those who aren't. There isn't anything much sadder than watching someone die
who doesn't have peace, and struggles until their last breath. In times past, Al has acted really afraid when his life has been
threatened this way, but it's different this time. He is fighting as hard as ever to live -- but he isn't afraid. It's so nice to see
someone truly trusting God that way.
Al asked for Sammy to be brought to him today, so we broke the rules and took him to him. He loves our boy so much -- you
could just see his face light up when we walked around the corner of his room! Sam kissed his "mustache" a couple times, and
touched the red oxygen monitor on Al's finger. He thought that was really cool. Al really enjoyed spending time with Sam. They
have such a sweet relationship -- they love each other so much.
