Amy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 10, 2001

I couldn't possibly write everything that has happened since my last diary entry. Sam continues to impress everyone with his incredible intelligence. He can now recite the alphabet, and has learned numerous additional (entire) songs. He still prefers drumming over his other musical interests, and his latest favorite song is a little church song about marching. He marches around the house all evening singing, "HUP TWO THREE FOUR!" and just giggling his little butt off.

He still shows no signs of weaning any time soon. We (really, "I") just went through some minor problems with cracked nipples. I was dreading the return of thrush, but as it turns out, I'm suspicious of new soap being the cause. How I first discovered the symptoms is a funny little story (funny to me). Very occasionally we allow Sam to chew gum. A couple weeks ago, on the evening of such an occasion, I was undressing and noticed something white all over one of my breasts. Upon closer inspection, I discovered it was Sam's gum! I mentioned to a friend that these are situations that mothers who only nurse infants never experience - find gum and food crumbs and stickers in your bra. You have to find this humorous, and if you don’t, I wonder why you are reading breastfeeding diaries….

Sam and I will be moving into my parents’ house in just a week or two. Kenny and I have finalized all of the detail of our dissolution, and expect that it will be filed by next week. Then it should just be a matter of weeks, waiting on a court date, and we’ll no longer be married. It has been an emotionally exhausting experience, as Kenny continues to be angry at me for pursuing a divorce. I don’t expect the transition to be terribly difficult for Sam. It very nearly mirrors what he experiences now.

In any case, I am really looking forward to summer. I intend to plant a small garden to tend to with Sam. I know he’ll enjoy it.
