Amy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 4, 2001

They ended up doing the heart cath on Kenny this afternoon. The doctor who performed the procedure described his heart in two sections (and forgive me for not remembering how exactly he did that) but one half, he said had "some" plaque build-up and some of the vessels were "lumpy" but they were not bad enough for stints because he felt they could be successfully treated with medicine and lifestyle changes. And get this. The other half of his heart looked "almost normal"!!!!

Congestive heart failure 18 hours earlier, and "almost normal" now! I'm claiming a miracle. Of course, I also believe that the advances in medicine in and of themselves are miracles from God, and that he had really good care that literally made him well. No enlarged heart, either. Also, these new doctors at Columbus couldn't determine that there ever had been a heart attack. They wouldn't say with certainty -- but only that there wasn't evidence of it now.

So Kenny is doing great. He's up there alone right now, and I just really hope he is sleeping the time away and not feeling too lonely. I was with him from around 2 to after 7, and managed to drive straight there and back without getting lost, mugged, raped or wrecked! Columbus makes me so uncomfortable. I had to park in a parking garage, and it was dark when I left, so I asked for a security guard escort. Kenny insisted, and to tell you the truth, I was happy to comply. Hopefully Kenny comes home tomorrow.

So, now about Sam. I was late getting to Columbus because he kept puking on me and I had to keep washing off and changing clothes. We tried THREE antibiotics in the past 24 hours before the doctor finally said to bring him in for a shot. It was an antibiotic that will take the place of the entire course of oral meds. My parents ended up taking him for me since I was in Columbus by then. The doctor looked at his ear again and listened to his lungs, and just since he saw him yesterday, said he was better. I've given him Tylenol suppositories for his fever and discomfort. They doctor said his leg would be sore a couple days.

Overall, things are looking much better today. Oh what a difference a day makes!
