July 12, 2000
And they're off! Lena and Liberty are walking! They started on July first when we were on vacation. We were in our hotel room and Liberty decided she just didn't want to crawl on unfamiliar carpet (can you blame her?). She walked back and forth and around and around our room. A little while later, Lena thought she might like to try that, so she took off. They were so proud of themselves! They would just giggle and clap. It was so cute.
Lena practiced and practiced for the next few days and now she's a pro. Liberty, however, ended up getting sick so she spent the next few days on my lap -- seriously, all day for three days. Then when she started to feel better she forgot that she had learned how to walk. Finally, a couple of days ago she remembered. Now they're both pros and they get a big kick out of seeing each other upright. I love it!
Lena is also starting to talk a lot. She will say certain things on command like mama, daddy, ball, and the other words that she's known for a while. She and Liberty have been able to say several words for quite some time, but all of the sudden Lena seems like she's eager to learn some new words. I even got her to say nana, papa, doggy, kitty, Tay-Tay (my niece Taylor's nickname), light, and hockey if you can believe that. That was all on one particularly talkative day. Of course, she hasn't said any of those words since then and nobody believes me. That's OK. You don't even have to believe me.
Well, it seems like there is so much going on around here with two walking babies and two parents who are trying so hard to get the house finished so those babies can have somewhere to walk. We are definitely having a good, busy summer. Because of the busyness, I will probably only write every other week for a while. Now that Lena and Liberty are getting bigger, my life isn't so much of a breastfeeding soap opera anymore. It's pretty much the same thing every day. They nurse a lot, but we all know what we're doing now so that helps. I just can't believe how easy it is now that Lena and Liberty have me trained : )
Take care!
