Just when I decided to stop thinking about potty training, Lena and Liberty pulled a one-eighty on me! Earlier this week, they started showing many more signs of readiness, such as, asking to wear underwear, doing a little "potty dance" when they felt the urge, being uncomfortable in a wet or dirty diaper, etc. And they've been waking up dry for a while now. So earlier this week when Liberty asked to wear underwear and Lena quickly said, "Me too! I want underwears too!" we put them on and I prepared for a morning of cleaning up messes, thinking that they would want to return to their diapers by lunch time. Well, this is the fourth day in underwear and I've been gently reminding them to try to pee on the potty instead of on the floor. Of course, we've had a few accidents, but they're really getting the hang of it now. However, even though Lena and Liberty are showing signs that they're ready, I think this is still a bit stressful for them. They've been acting out in little ways this week and they've been asking to nurse more often. Usually, they only nurese before nap and bedtime. They normally don't nurse at all in the morning, but they haven't missed an opportunity to catch a quick little wake-me-up nursing session almost every day this week. They've also both been much more easily upset and very emotional about certain things.
On the one hand, I'm thinking that it's all just too much for them, but on the other hand, I really believe that they're ready and they are enjoying themselves for the most part. They love their underwear, and they especially love flushing the big potty. Although, they prefer to refer to flushing as "turning the potty on." hee hee
I guess I just don't really know what to expect. I've never potty-trained a child before! But I suspect that potty training is stressful no matter how ready a child is, so a little bit of acting out is to be expected. I remember Lena and Liberty going through the same kind of thing when they were on the verge of talking and walking, too. So, for now, I guess I'll just keep watching them and taking their lead. They've been asking for underwear all this week, but who's to say they won't be asking to wear diapers next week? You just never know!
