Abigail's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 7, 2000

I've been trying to videotape Lena and Liberty doing some of the cute things they do. I just love it when they chase each other up and down our hallway, giggling all the way. They've been doing that for a while now, but I just can't seem to get it on tape. They're at that stage where every time I get the camera out, they want to come and play with it.

It doesn't matter if it's the still camera or the video camera, they just want to play with it. I think I have about an hour's worth of video of them booking toward the camera and sticking their little fingers on the lens and on the flashing red light. I don't know why the camera manufacturer's put a flashing red light on the front of video cameras when they know that most people are buying the camera to tape their children -- children who can not resist the temptation to go touch the flashing red light. As soon as Lena and Liberty see that light, they come crawling over to me in hopes that they'll get to play with the little flashing toy.

Sometimes I think I should let them play with it. They could take turns smashing it on our wood floors. Lena and Liberty would definitely enjoy that, and I would feel the satisfaction that comes from seeing the death of the flashing red light. I feel like a wild life videographer sometimes, trying to be sooo careful not to draw attention to myself, using my best Australian accent and whispering into my microphone. "We're trying to get a peek at some twin toddlers in their natural habitat. Notice the brightly colored plastic objects strewn from one end of the house to the other -- that tells us that there are twins nearby. Oh, there they are -- aren't they stunning? Look, they're going to start playing with each other. This is so exciting. I don't believe we've ever been this close. Oops, they've seen me. Let's just remain calm and very, very still." --silence-- "OK, they're charging! Save yourselves! It's the camera they want!" I have enough footage like that to start my own television show called, "When Twins Attack." I think I'll call the Fox network now.
