What's in Store for Nursing Moms

With so much "oohing" and "ahhing" over our babies (lack of sleep and tending to older children certainly doesn't help either), it's easy to forget which breast should be offered for the next feeding. This isn't good, since breastfeeding evenly across both breasts ensures maximum milk production and prevents clogged milk ducts.

Some (rather organized) women mark on paper which side to use next after a feeding, while others may get creative and secure, say, a safety pin to the appropriate bra strap. Still others may do nothing at all, wracking their brain best they can when time comes to nurse again.

Fresh Baby, a northern Michigan-based company that sells all-natural infant feeding accessories, offers this new solution to the "which side?" dilemma:

Colorful jewelry called Mama Jewels, or Side 'Minders, which slide around bra straps and can be moved from left to right so as to not forget on which breast to begin each feeding.

"Gone are the days of using safety pins as make-shift reminders," says Fresh Baby's co-founder and president Cheryl Tallman. "Mama Jewels are symbolic of the beauty of breastfeeding."

Available in four colors made from Swarovski crystals with glass and sterling silver beads, the comfortable memory wire design fits easily around most bra straps. Go to www.freshbaby.com for more information.

Portions of all sales from Mama Jewels are donated to fund Breast Cancer Research.
