Mothers Helping Mothers
La Leche League International By Dorothy Patricia Dimmig
mothers, answers to frequently asked questions about breastfeeding and a link to theirCenter for Breastfeeding Information Database. Information is available at no charge to the user, and an LLLI membership is not required to access the Web site. The LLLI catalog, which contains books published by LLLI and other products recommended by them, can also be viewed at the site. Orders can either be placed online or mailed in.
LLLI supports a mother's right to breastfeed her child through the first year and beyond. It also supports the breastfeeding working mother: LLLI provides information about corporate lactation programs and provides answers to legal questions a working mother may have concerning breastfeeding issues in the workplace; however, they do not provide representation in lawsuits.
On a more local and personalized level, LLLI has monthly support group meetings in churches, community buildings and homes all over the world. A typical meeting, although they can vary slightly in different areas, is a group of 10 to 20 women and their children. Children are welcome, but are the responsibility of the mother no childcare is provided. Men are not present at these meetings; however, there are father's meetings and couples meetingsseparately organized in some areas. The goal is to make the women comfortable, not to purposefully exclude the men. There are also special toddler groups organized in some areas for topics dealing with this specific age group.
